Amit Brar has over fifteen years’ experience in developing and executing impact investing strategies in emerging and frontier markets. Amit has led private equity and debt transactions end to end in financial inclusion, education finance, microfinance and fintech sectors. He has lived and worked in Africa (Nigeria, S Africa, Kenya), Asia (India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Pakistan, Philippines) and Latin America (Colombia, Brazil, Guatemala, Dominican Republic).

Amit is currently an Independent Consultant. Earlier, Amit led the education finance activity for a USAID-funded blended finance project (CATALYZE) in eleven countries in Sub Saharan Africa and Latin America. In his previous role as Chief Investment Officer at Grassroots Capital Management, Amit incubated and managed a multi-million-dollar portfolio of investments into education finance companies in Pakistan, Nigeria and the Philippines. Prior to this Amit served as Investment Director for Caspian Advisors, India, where he led new fund development in SE Asia and portfolio monitoring in India. Amit has also served as Director of Operations of MISFA – an investment fund in Kabul, Afghanistan with US$200 mil invested in fifteen microfinance organizations. Amit is a CFA Charterholder, and holds M.S. in Finance from London Business School. He speaks fluent English, Hindi and Urdu, and basic Bangla and Spanish. Amit currently serves on the Convergence Funding Committee for the SDG Impact Finance Initiative Design Funding Window.
