“Inside the deal” is our quarterly webinar series where we delve into the inner workings of real blended finance transactions. Each quarter, Convergence features a transaction from our case study portfolio and gives members an opportunity to candidly engage with the deal sponsor on their experience structuring the transaction.

This webinar focused on the Climate Finance Facility (CFF). The facility was launched in February 2019, to increase private investment into climate-related infrastructure projects in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region, which faces significant climate mitigation and adaptation challenges. The CFF is a debt facility, and it is the first time the “green bank” model has been applied to an emerging market. The CFF blends public and private capital at the project level, using long term surbordinated debt and credit enhancements such as tenor extensions to draw in private capital at the project level.

This hour-long workshop included:

• An overview of the facility design, and fundraising experience from the CFF team
• Convergence-led Interview with key stakeholders involved in the transaction to discuss key lessons learned thus far
• Open Q&A with audience
