Panel idea:

Mind the gap – The mechanics of achieving development goals with blended finance

How do you reduce risk and enhance returns in emerging markets, while closing the $2.5 trillion per year funding gap facing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)? Blended finance, leveraging public and philanthropic funding to unlock billions of private sector dollars, is one way to make it happen. The panel will explore how blended finance deals are made and what makes them work. We’ll take apart historical blended finance deals spanning diverse sectors and regions, from solar energy projects in sub-Saharan Africa to healthcare in Bangladesh. We’ll also identify where and when to invest, emerging market potential, how to replicate and scale up these models, and how blended finance deals can align with the SDGs.

Potential panellists:

  • USAID
  • Blue Haven
  • Initiative Allotrope Partners
  • Treehouse Investments
  • Osprey Foundation
