As UNGA week kicks off in NYC, we wanted to share some of the events we’re involved in and attending. We hope to see some of you there!

EVENTS CONVERGENCE IS INVOLVED IN

IMPACT BONDS IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES REPORT LAUNCH
Monday, 18 September – 9-11:00 am

We will be launching a report on Impact Bonds in Developing Countries with the Brookings Center for University Education (CUE). The report documents the experience of a range of stakeholders developing social and development impact bonds in developing countries, and navigates the opportunities, risks, and challenges faced by practitioners in this nascent field, providing a timely update of the state of play. Our CEO Joan Larrea will be giving welcome remarks, two of the report authors from Convergence, Dean Segell, New Products and Knowledge Manager, and Justice Durland, Knowledge Associate will also be in attendance.

2ND ANNUAL SUSTAINABLE INVESTMENT FORUM – CLIMATE ACTION AND UNEP FINANCE INITIATIVE
Tuesday, 19 September – 2:30 – 3:25 pm

Our CEO Joan Larrea will be speaking on a panel on Innovative Green Finance Tools and will discuss the importance of blended finance for climate finance with a focus on emerging markets, the development of a blue bond with the Nature Conservancy for marine conservation, and specific climate-related blended finance transactions.

Other panellists include Raymond Johansen, Governing Mayor of Oslo; Alfred Griffin, President of New York Green Bank; and Namrita Kapur, Managing Director of EDF+Business.

CHANGING THE “BUSINESS AS USUAL” MODEL: A NEW WAY TO PARTNER FOR PEACE AND THE 2030 AGENDA
Thursday, 21 September – 1-2:45 pm

In partnership with the SDG Fund and Concordia, the International Peace Institute will launch a research paper that focuses on how the private sector can become a partner for sustainable development and sustaining peace. Our CEO Joan Larrea will be on the panel and present Convergence’s work on blended finance and how blended finance can help close the trillion-dollar gap in funding the SDGs.

Other panellists include: Paloma Duran, Director of the UN SDG Fund; Tonye Cole, CEO of Sahara Group; and Mats Granryd, Director General of the GSMA.

UNSIF/UNCTAD SPECIAL HIGH-LEVEL EVENT: POLICY DIALOGUE – ACCELERATING BLENDED CAPITAL
Friday, 22 September – 7:30 am – 12:15 pm

The event is part of UNDP-UNSIF and UNCTAD’s collaboration on fostering enterprise development and connecting that to SDG-aligned investment capital. Our CEO Joan will be on a panel focused on the “Blended Ecosystem”, where she will address the power of blended models for better impact and financial returns. The panel will more generally address questions such as: what are the ground-breaking, catalytic programs we can fund together in Asia through UNSIF and other similar platforms? What are lessons learned from other PPP investments each panelist has participated in?

Other panellists include: Amit Bhatia, CEO of Global Steering Group for Impact Investing (GSG); Tracy Palandjian, CEO & Co-Founder of Social Finance; the Honorable Kevin Rudd, Former Prime Minister of Australia and President of the Asia Society Policy Institute; and Linda Sheehan, Executive Director of Planet Pledge.
