Member Training: Structuring Blended Finance Vehicles: Evergreen or Closed-End?

As blended finance continues to grow as a tool for mobilizing private capital toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), fund structuring decisions play a critical role in driving scale, flexibility, and impact.

In this 60-minute session, Convergence will explore one of the key design considerations: should a blended finance fund be evergreen or closed-ended? The session will begin with a 15-minute debate between two experienced structuring firms, each advocating for one structure. They will discuss how fund structure affects capital mobilization, risk appetite, and long-term impact.

This will be followed by two 15-minute case study presentations:
- __Evergreen Fund__: highlighting how a revolving structure can enable continuous investment and impact.
- __Closed-Ended Fund__: demonstrating how a fixed timeline and capital structure can drive time-bound results.

Participants will gain a clear understanding of the trade-offs between evergreen and closed-ended models, along with practical insights into when each approach is most effective in blended finance.
