Value of Investment: Mobilization & Structure of Deal - Working Paper

Publish What you Fund

Publish What You Fund is the global campaign for aid and development transparency.

This paper, produced under workstream 4: Mobilization and Structure of Deal, assesses how transparently development finance institutions (DFIs) structure the financial aspects of their direct investments. Given the need for increased private capital mobilization for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, the interaction between DFIs and private investors is of vital importance. Better information disclosure from DFIs, who have built a track record investing in emerging markets, can have a powerful demonstration effect to encourage more robust commercial engagement in these economies.

The report provides a series of key findings and identifies a number of areas where lagging transparency practices are holding back a fruitful relationship between DFIs and private investors, including: the lack of DFI reporting at the project level and the absence of systematic information disclosure procedures among DFIs.
