The number of development finance institutions (DFIs), development agencies and investor groups looking to expand the footprint of gender lens investing in Sub-Saharan Africa and popularize and improve clarity surrounding gender considerations in investing is growing.
Gender bonds are still relatively poorly defined. No official or universal definition exists. Yet, their potential remains high. The report posits that in order to grow the market, there is a need for further guidance on what a gender bond is and what uses of proceeds qualify, including the creation of credible reference standards accepted by market stakeholders. By making it easy for both investors and issuers to understand what a gender bond is, the potential for market growth increases significantly.
